The Diesels are ALIVE and WELL. I don't post messages on this board as you all know, and I discourage all our players from doing so. But this is one of those times when something needs to be said. And all I will state is facts. The Diesels will be a team as they have been for the last 6 years. Just because some coaches were replaced has no bearing on us fielding a team. As far as a split team. We have always had at least 50% turnover every year since I have owned the team. And that is the norm throughout Semi- Pro Football.
We will be on our normal calender. Messages out to players in Dec. Team meetings in Jan. and Feb. and Combines in March with practice starting in April. Just as we have done for the last 5 years. I know that everyone tries to move the season forward every year. But we have held fast to this schedule and it has always worked. Don't feel that starting early year after year will get you more or better players. I feel that players will go to the team that is their best fit. If they are with you good, if they are not, that so be it. There is a place for everyone and everyone in their place. There are plenty of quality players to go around for every team. What we don't have is enough fields, but that is for another time.
Everyone knows that our Head Coach quit the team before the season was over and before we got to the play-offs. If we were going to fold it would have been then. But we didn't. We re-grouped and played some of the best ball we played all year. I want to thank all of my players that stuck with the team and made it all happen. I consider many of you my friends and hope to see you all. Yea I know that I didn't go out drinking with all of you many times the last few years. But its the age thing catching up.
I want everyone to know that everyone is invited to join the team in 08. We have a new Coaching Staff, and a new system. All the Coaches are former Head Coaches with a store house of knowledge to teach. One example. Our new OC is a former All Stater, and a former Starting QB at Alabama State. There will be many new opportunities for players and no favoritism. We are looking for players with Character first, and Football ability next.
Those that choose to go else where. Good luck, and I hope you all have great seasons. Those that want to stay a Diesel, See you soon.
The only thing I will say about the posting, about our demise. It is funny that it came from a T-Wolf. And from what I hear our former head coach is now down there and has been calling many of our players and asking them to come and play with him as a T-Wolf. Those that want to go, go. Those that want to stay a Diesel I will see you in January. Have a good Holiday.
The reason that you haven't heard much from me is, and some of you know, My father has been in the Hospital since Oct. 2 with terminal, un-operative lung cancer. He has a tumor the size of a baseball in his right lung. We almost lost him a few times, But he keeps fighting. He just survived 30 radiation treatments. and came out with a smile. I have been with him constantly and have been taking my mother, with her health problems, that I wont go into, back and forth daily as well. Dad has been to almost all the Diesels games since I have been with the team and many away games also. Some of you remember me getting off the bus on a few trips to help him finish the drive home. I like to tease him and ask if he is making if for all the games he missed when I was playing, and we laugh. He had to travel many years when he was working for Ford, but you got to feed the family.
I don't bring this up to get any sympathy. But I would like your prayers. I bring this up because it makes you think about things that are important. We are blessed to be happy and to be able to play the game we all love. All the drama, fighting, back stabbing and egos belongs some place else. Everyone should Thank God everyday that you can still play, and then go out and play. Don't waste Gods gift to you on all the negatives that usually goes with this level of ball. Wish everyone well on their chosen teams. And everyone just PLAY BALL.
Best to all,
Coach AL
