In Washington
In 2002, among their intimate text conversations, Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty planned a clandestine meeting in the mayor's Washington hotel room during the Congressional Black Caucus annual legislative conference.
Beatty asked the mayor, on Sept. 12, 2002, if she could "come and lay down in your room until you get back?"
The next morning Kilpatrick, referring to his bodyguards, wrote: "They were right outside the door. They had to have heard everything."
Beatty replied: "So we are officially busted!"
"darn that," Kilpatrick responded. "Never busted. Busted is what you see!"
The text traffic appears to lend credence to allegations made by Walt Harris, a former mayoral bodyguard who filed his own whistle-blower suit. Harris said he was punished for supporting Nelthrope's reports of wrongdoing by Kilpatrick and his bodyguards.
His lawsuit claimed, among other things, that Beatty met alone with the mayor in Kilpatrick's hotel room during the Washington trip in 2002.
Kilpatrick later told reporters Harris was making up stories to get money from the city.
On May 14, 2003, Kilpatrick and Beatty traded text messages about another late-night tryst in a Washington hotel. The next day, Kilpatrick stood on the steps of the Manoogian Mansion and spoke of his devotion to family and God amid a frenzy of news reports that Brown was fired for looking into rumors of the Manoogian party.

Lied to the court AND still lost 9 million dollars for the city of Detriot. Could have saved jobs , tore down houses, etc. Hes a joke and until someone who doesnt lie on a daily basis leads, DETROIT is screwed. He needs to get booted from office and spend some time in JAIL.

In September, a Wayne County jury concluded Brown and Nelthrope were victims of retaliation and found in their favor, awarding Brown $3.9 million and Nelthrope $2.6 million.
Kilpatrick's public response was: "I'm absolutely blown away at this decision, and I know Detroiters are, too."
The next morning, on Sept. 12, Kilpatrick told a radio audience why he had refused to settle the case.
"I thought that the people of the city of Detroit needed to have an opportunity to hear the truth, they needed to see me sit in the chair," he said. "They saw that." He vowed an appeal.
Then, in October, Kilpatrick abruptly settled the case, as well as the suit brought by Harris, for a combined $8.4 million. Legal costs have pushed the total to more than $9 million.
"Since the verdict," Kilpatrick told residents in a statement, "I've listened to pastors, business leaders and so many Detroiters who genuinely love and care about me and this city. I've humbly concluded that a settlement ... is the correct decision for my family and the entire Detroit community."
Kilpatrick's decision to settle pleased Detroit City Council members, who swiftly approved the deal.
Harris received $400,000. Records show Kilpatrick could have settled that case two years ago for $100,000 — but he rejected the mediators' recommendation.
Because they were sued in their roles as city officials, Kilpatrick and Beatty did not personally have to pay the costs from the $9-million legal fight.

Hes a joke and until someone who doesnt lie on a daily basis leads, DETROIT is screwed. Oh, I don't know...Richard J. Daley lied practically every day he was in office, and the city of Chicago seems to have done well enough. 'Course, he had a sense of civic duty while he was lying, so maybe that's the difference... So many of them do, and so few of them ever get there. Then there are the Marion Barry's of the world, who get busted, spend time in jail and then get re-elected by the same people they screwed the first time. I used to think that people learn after being burned enough times, but I'm not so sure, anymore.

first of all he is wrong for termination of those 2 cops. second of all he went in front of the judge and denied everything. why should of just said yeah i did it so what had a ruff time in my life and it wont happen again, but he didnt. i sure wouldnt want a person like that representing my city. people in detroit wonder why they cant get trash service and have over flowing cans and trash on just about half the streets and the stinch of trash on vacant houses cause thats where every one dumps in a house next to a single mom raising kids so they can smell it, oops just another casualty or a vacant house knocked down or a vacant field across the street from a school mowed so a kid rapist can stalk children and then run into a vacant house with his prey,, oops just another casualty and cant get the police to show up untill 4 housrs later people in detroit wonder why my house burnt down well the mayor bought this or went ther or leased this and was unable to hire firefighters to fight thatfire, so oops you lose everything just another casualty. thats why because he pays for all of his mistakes... and has to go out and get all of those expensive leases for his gang. on top of that he pays unlimited ot to his child hood friends,, oops i mean his body guards.. sells buildings to friends and buys them back for double.. dosent contract out work, but yet 1 company does it and makes a killing. hire people who are quailified to run dept. of the city instead of hiring friends and family and double thier salary. detroit needs to be run like a business instead of like a playground where the most popular or feared kids get to sit in the jungle gym.
second of all i think that some of the progress of detroit can come from kk, but i do believe some of it comes from the past admistration.

Everyone should leave the man alone. He's not the first and definitely will not be the last to lie in front of a judge. Text messaging, man if they looked a incoming and outgoing text messages, I would probably be jailed for the stuff on my phone. I'm no fan of his, but some people can't budget their households, he has to budget and run a city. He messed up, move on.

Wait a minute....optimus is pooh poohing folks who don't want there represenitive to lie under oath! Mmmm.....can I get a witness and say it ain't so? Remember this, that all politics is local. Detroit wanted a player and they got what they wanted! There wasn't room for honour, courage and virtue because greed, pride and selfishness pushed it aside. Not untill the men and women in Detroit demand accountibility will that once great city, that drew thousands of Black Americans with the promise of success, become a beacon once again. On the field we win when each of us gives our best. As a player you need to know you can count on your team-mate to carry their load and to watch your back. The folks of Detroit now know their mayor is busy watching some one elses back..side and it ain't for the folks best interest. So men what say you.....? Is this the actions that cause lessor men to rise up and stir their hearts to become more couragous or actions that your own wife and children would despise you for? Might be time for some men on this board to re-examine where their hearts truly are.

lets start with this! kwame and Miss beatty had an affair, so #$%& what. did he do anything to cost the city financial lost, Oh my bad I forgot " the whistle blower case" the dumb cops should've been fired in my opinion. Investigate the assault, homicide, rapes, drugs dealing, BE's, and the host of other things that the tax payer are promise. No one really cares if the mayor getting a little on the side, thats between him and his family.
