I believe the USFA starts in late May or early June so I'm guessing those teams will be declining. It sounds like a good idea, but with so many different starting times for the various leagues it may prove near impossible.

That's why we are looking for programs that wants to get into the tournment. Based on how many teams would like to join in, we could push it back to late may.
Thank you Michigan Tournament AD

The Downriver Diesels are now just the Detroit Diesels.
The Metro Detroit Saints and Capital Colts folded in 2007.
The Great Lakes Makos probably won't be back this year, but I could be wrong.
New teams for 2008 not currently on your list:
Kalamazoo Outlaws Battle Creek Blaze Lapeer County Lions
With the Makos, Colts, and Saints folding and the Outlaws, Blaze, and Lions starting the total remains at 25 teams playing in Michigan in 2008. So far.

that is a good idea but with the start dates different in each league that would be to early for some and to late for others. why not try and get a state playoff after everyones season with the teams not going to a national championship game. The winner hosting the great lakes bowl game against another state. would give teams a chance to play for something if they didn't make it to the championship game and would shine a light on the talented teams that do reside in our great state.

This subject has been beat to death for the last few years and nothing ever comes of it due to the diffrent start dates of different leagues. I think everyone would like to see this, and it makes for good "winter chat" but not realistic.
By the way Go Bucks!

Coach C If everyone wants this to happen, why don't some of the leaders of these leagues get together and consider standardizing start dates? I pose this question to you directly since you have some influence in one of the later starting leagues.

My guess would be because not all of the leagues are based in Mi. and have other non-Michigan teams to consider. I couldn't see any league director changing the start date just so certain teams could participate in a tournament that doesn't include all it's member teams. Just my opinion.

They should pick the top 10 to 15 teams and send out invites......If anyone dosen't want to attend just go to the next team with the next best record.....

Ads71: all the leagues in Michigan are younger than the MCFL and they chose to start(IMHO) earlier than the MCFL to attract teams that might be interested rather than to allow them the MCFL alternative. OR, they chose to start earlier for some other reason which escapes me. So let them all get together and start on the same date as the MCFL. Then we can play an all Michigan tourney. Now, since the chance of that happening is almost nil, but makes for good reading in the winter, I suggest we do something else to while away the winter months. Like getting all the teams together for a toy drive to support the USMC and its "toys for tots" drive. Nothing could bring more positive publicity to our game for all the teams in the "D" area than this. We could drive for two months October 1 to Dec 1 and donate everything to the USMC. If were going to do all this work to organize the "D" area teams, lets make it a big bang and do it right. What does everone think of that?
