That far north you're pretty far from everybody else in Michigan, so travel will be an issue.
That having been said, there's supposedly a new team out of Traverse City going to start play in 2009; they are going to join the NAFL.
Other than them, the closest teams to you would be Lansing (USFA), Grand Rapids (also USFA), and/or the Flint area (Patriots, NAFL, and Lapeer Lions, also NAFL).
So, by proximity, I would say either the NAFL or the USFA would be the most convenient.

Do you know where Gaylord is dude? They are not going to take players away from existing teams. People just want something negative to say.

That team could be something that he has really wanted to do, maybe a dream, don't be the one to turn someone away from their dream or their goals.

Were are they going to find players? Gaylord would be a good area. The boys up in that part of the woods are farm grown. That area has nothing and that would be great to get started. As far as league I would agree with elganned the NAFL. Because teams like Traverse City, Patriots and the Lapeer County Lions being the closest. Which ever league you decide don't let guys on here bring you down. Follow your dreams.

Ever since I was a little boy... I've always dreamt about being the proud owner of a Semi-pro football team in Gaylord, MI... who the heck has dreams about being a semi pro football owner? heck, no probably new what semi pro football really was until after they got out of high school and realized they wasn't going to play college ball ever, or they played college ball and realized they wasn't going to play ball ever again, until they found out about a semi pro team. You don't dream of semi pro, it just happens.

I feel what you are saying, but all dreams don't start as little boys. I've never dreamed about playing football, it was an outlet for a little boy who loved to fight. I have a dream of one day starting a shelter for homeless people, it didn't start as a little boy. Just being real, who has a dream about starting a football team in Gaylord, Mi, the guy who has the passion and who is trying to get it done now, thats who.
I will say this, if I could still play this game, I would rather play for someone who has dreamed about having a team and has passion rather than for someone who it just happened for.

Attn: "little boy" I am not one to be negitive, but in your case I will.I am sure, I have made it a heck of a lot farther than you! I have played college baseball, semi-pro football and played on an arena team. So, what I am thinking is you are that piece of crap you wrote about, not me. so, have a great day.for everybody else, thanks for the help and sorry for bringing messages like this one to the board.but I fell it needed to be said.

the man you are a joke. What does you playing college baseball, semi - pro football and on an arena team have to do with this person wanting to start a football team. Obvious you probably sat the bench in college , was 3rd string on the semi - pro team and the ball boy on the arena team. You obviously have issues with people wanting to succeed. Just because you are lonely and have no life. Does not mean you have to put down others.

Uh...HAHA? You might want to stop before you shoot yourself in the foot.
"the man" is the one who started this topic, not the one trying to bring him down.

"the man" Look, you shouldn't assume anything about someone you don't know. You assume you've done more in your life than I, yet you assume wrong. However, I won't even get into my little deal about what I've done, for it doesn't matter. On here, anyone could have done anything (and not really done it). So, while you were popping off at the mouth about playing college baseball and semi pro football (why not college football??) I mean, if you were good enough to play college baseball, and good enough to play arena (what level by the way? AFL or the little intro leagues like the CIFL)? Anyway, I'm gonna stop there... Oh yeah... my college retired my football number cuz I'm so darn sweet! Good luck in GAYlord

congrats on starting a new team, maybe the northerner can develop some type of league up that way... Michigan is one of the largest states in the country, why not add more talent to the league.
