FOUND THIS ON THE OHIO BOARD I THINK IT WOULD BE COOL TO GET THIS GOING. I am posting this again to see who would be interested in playing in a semi pro basketball league. It is still in the works and we have a few details to work out but we wanted to get a feel who might be interested in playing in the league. It would be played in the winter months and would not interfere with any football leagues. If you are interested please fill out a team application at: www.leaguelineup.com/FormPreview.asp?sid=724136899&url=aabl&FormID=23743Thank you.

The present estimated average overall cost to operate a franchise for one season is $50,000-$75,000. These costs include facility rental, league fees, uniforms, liability insurance, and marketing costs. This is fron the great lakes website. The AABL wont even be close to that price.

I respectfully disagree with those numbers. Although I've never run a semi pro basketball team, I have run a semi pro football team for 7 years. We also now run youth basketball teams through our organization (www.aau.twolves.org), so I have an idea what it costs for gym rentals for practices and games, equipment and uniform costs, officials, etc.
You should be able to run a basketball team for much cheaper than you run a football team. Even with only a handful of paying customers at your games, you easily make money on home games. Your travel will certainly cost you....but you're only travelling with a dozen or so people (one fifteen passenger van).
I think we do a pretty good job running our football team on FAR less than 50-75K. I'm pretty sure you could run a semi pro basketball team (provided travel isn't too ridiculous, and you're not looking to play 50 plus games) on a budget MUCH smaller than that.
