Was wondering how the Detroit Diesels team meeting went. I was unable to attend and would like to hear some details. Heard they are going to be paying players or something like that. Any info would be great.

Paying players? Why do they charge a team fee if they are going to be paying players? Sounds fishy to me.

Heard they are going to be paying players or something like that. Translation: Nobodys really going to get paid, they just found an unethical recruiting tool.

So if players are going to get paid how are the coaches getting paid?

My homey plays for the DD and said they had to pay 25 bones to go to Pittsburgh during the playoffs and now all of a sudden the team is going to pay players. Something is cooking here and it doesn't smell good. What a joke.

Something is cooking here and it doesn't smell good. What a joke. I was on the team for years and we never had to pay for travel. We travelled to Racine and there was no extra money needed. As for the players getting paid, it is against the NAFL Rules. Plus, knowing ownership, I never see it happening.

Hey Coop we did have to pay 25 for travel to Pitt. Not sure why, I don't remember probably cause too many people were allowed to not pay there team fees. This sounds kinda fishy to me too. I don't see how paying players is possible. Maybe Al hit the Lotto or some thing who knows. Good luck Diesels in 08.

I would have been pissed to have to pay $25, but you know me I probably would have drove myself anyway. Did you get my email about 08?

I think because they never had to pay before. I think that the bus was supposed to be included with the team fees. Els, Coop, Swags correct me if I'm wrong.

Time to set the record straight. Before this becomes a runaway train, let me speak.
Last years fees were 150.00 to start the season. With many incentives to lower it. Like pay early, Help with the Youth camp, sponsor a fund raiser, Bring in a sponsor, sell fan packs, or do a service that helps the team, like player coach. May players did those things and got their fees down low. ( at least 20% )Some didn't even have to pay for those reasons.
When the season starts you do a budget. Income vs expenses. usually I will work in 25.00 per bus trip ( anyone that knows about bus cost, 25.00 per player does not cover the cost of a bus. Last year I knew that we would have at least 3 bus trips. Two to Canada and Cleveland. And a playoff game.
Because We did good at the first game and we had a couple of good fundraisers. we lowered the fees early be 25.00.
At mid season we lowered it be another 25.00 with the understanding and agreement by the players that if we needed another bus for playoffs they would all kick in 25.00. Now again if you want to check bus prices, A last minute booking of a bus to Pittsburgh costs. So the 25.00 that the player paid ( and not all paid, pretending they did not know even we talked about it for weeks ) only covered half the cost.I took the middle cost one because I was unsure of those I did not know. It had to be paid cash up front. Because I was tied up with my dad in the hospital, our Announcer Kevin had to drive it to Oak Park during rush hour to make sure we had the bus.
This years fees will be 75.00 to start and if we get in a jam we might ask for another 25.00 late in the season. But I don't see that happening. We have some good plans this year for marketing. As far as a budget, the player fees only make up 25% of the total cost of the year. Anyone thinks that I am getting rich, come and look at my mansion I live in ( South Dearborn Heights, Annapolis and Beech Daly ) I think that we try and supply the best that we can with what we have to work with. Good field, good busses, etc. I am not a rich man and only ask that we can pay the bills at the end of the season. But we always seem to have some left over bills that need to be paid. We have been taking care of things for 6 years and will keep doing it.
So that is the story behind the team fees and the bus story.
Someone did a post of the best run teams. Someone said that just surviving is success. I agree. The success of any Small Business is the challenge of keeping your doors open. And even though some of the players don't agree, A team is a small business, with a large budget and many bills to pay. .
As far as the meeting last week. I thought it went good and the feed back I got from some of the players were positive. Everyone met the new Coaches, and seemed to get the answers they wanted. We talked about future plans, but never said anything about getting paid this year. It was loud in there and maybe hard to hear. And I think everyone had their mind on the Christmas Carol serving them drinks and food. Too bad we couldn't use her as a recruiting tool. But as I said we will be watching films there on Tuesdays after a lite practice. Something I wanted to do last year But was over ruled.
For those of you out there that are still trying to tear us down. Stop hiding behind a message board and be a man and have the guts to put your names up. Either that, or keep it to yourself.
We will be having our next meeting in late January and the next in mid February, with the combines in March as always. I will put the Information out here for all to see.
As I said at the meeting. Things will be different. With our new staff, everything will be on the up and up. No favorites, no deceptions, and everything out front.
Anyone have any questions feel free to contact me. I will answer all questions 313-303-5980 alseder@hotmail.com

the coaches won't be getting paid, same as usual. instead he will try and pawn off tickets to sporting events, state fair, or old computers as payment and when they aren't happy he will tell them they can sell them on ebay if they want the money that bad because he thought they were getting paid enough with the ability to coach his team and the game they love...... does that sound about right?

Do you know for a fact that payment is promised to the coaches? Or do you just assume that pay is involved?
If no payment is promised, why would they get pissed if no payment is received?

OK, Mr Fraud....why don't you strap on "your boys" and post on this board with your real name instead of continually hiding behind your less than creative screen names. It does not bother me to post with my name because as you will recall, I am the one who gave you the computer. It was not a gift from the owner or intended to compensate you for coaching in a volunteer organization. You said on more than one occasion in my presence that you did not have a computer at home and I graciously gave you the spare and yes "old" one I had. Too bad you didn't have equally as much grace to say thank you and appreciate that someone gave you something. If you did indeed sell it on e-Bay, good for you, hope you got a couple of bucks....again, you know and I know it was nothing more than a gift to fill a need that you said you had.
Whether or not coaches in this organization are paid or not is really not any of your business any more nor should it be your concern as you chose to leave the organization. Why don't you attempt to be happy with where you are and concentrate your time and energy on your new set of challenges. Personally, I wish you well....Best of luck to you in your new organization.
Is there any chance that some day you might actually be a man for a change? I know it's a stretch for you. If you'd like to comment any further about a gift from me, please give me a call....I'd be more than happy to discuss with you in a private conversation and not do a battle of postings on a mesage board that the majority of users treat as a teenage blog rather than a football forum for men. Again, I've posted with my name and you know how to reach me. Why not be an adult and come out of hiding.
