Everyone know in football you are not suppose to some dive at someones knee. so why do players chop block? i think that is a coward way out of blocking. i think you should be a man and block the man and if you can not bring in some one else.
well what do you guys think and why?
and if you are a coach why do you teach it?

well for 1 there is a difference between chop blocking and cut blocking. chop is one blocker up high and one guy taking out his knees. i beleive you are referring to cutting, where the ol blocks low as to take the dl off his feet.
it is not a cheap move, sometimes you have to cut the lineman to get his hands down so you can throw a slant or te pop. teams cant practice it, because someone would get hurt in practice doing it wrong.
and the object isnt to go at the knees, you hit the shins and roll so the person basically just trips over you, a cut block shouldnt even hurt you at all, just make you mad.

It is also used in out side zone for blocking the back side...but you can also teach to defend against cut blocks. But if you are afraid to get hurt on the field then don't play, if you play not to get hurt then chances are you will...

If I remember right, cut blocks are easy to defend against. If a defensive player bullrushes only (which a lot of them do around here), they will always be prone to getting cut. Instead of thinking that they need to bring in another O lineman, maybe they need to bring in a defensive lineman that can actually move his feet rather than plod through a line for once. I do agree though with you austinjackson on one point though, if you dont know how to do it properly you have no business doing it. On the other hand, it is something you can practice if you have a proper blocking dummy.

I'm all for cut blocking, Just a little scenario I'm 5'7'' 180 and I love to block. But if I'm engaged with a 6'1 224 LB and he decides that he's threw playing with me and tries to throw me away, what am I suppose to do. My 1st instinct is to cut him and 99% of the time it works. Now I'm speaking for the smaller guys. As far as linemen go its nothing wrong with cut blocking, because as a D-lineman the 1st thing you are taught to do is use your hands so there for you should not get cut, making cut blocking OK. I don't care what level pro, semi, college, high school you should be able to defend a cut block and if you cant you should learn and its never to late to learn.
And as far as chop blocking go its illegal anyway so you shouldn't be doing it!

Third, you call yourself threating me over what i said to another man (but you called me a f*g) sorry bro i dont fight over dudes. Thats all i have to say to lil dre 11 (the queer trying to get me to email him so we can chat) bro get off and stay off my d.i.c.k!!! Now to set things straight for everyone that doesnt really matter to me i was joking with my teammate, i was going to have a good time with this at practice till capt'n save my man came running his f.u.c.king mouth. As far the cut blocking and chop blocking goes, i'll have to fully agree with WCW. We're about the same size so i know first hand what you are referring too. Yo Austin this Wood if you balling with us this year check out the board we practicing already!!! And bro give your thingy sucking fan a autograph or something so he can stay off my d.i.c.k!!

Me being a speed rusher, a cut block is the way to neutralize the defender. There has been occasions where I will speed rush the piss out of a guy for a quarter, then they cut block me out of no where. I dont care who you are, thats in your head. I dont mind it at all long as its done right, without malicious intent. I also play in backfield a little bit, and if you got a blitzing LB coming like a bat out of h-e-l-l, cutting him is the best way to make him think twice.

Not to disrespect anyone, but I don't teach cut blocking, except when needed (screens, slants, etc..) like said by my man earlier. If you guys coach anyone on any level, you don't throw at the shins you throw at the thighs
I you cut block any other time it's really cowardly.

CUT BLOCKING IS SOME BULLSH%T. It shows a lack of confidence in the ability of moving your feet and being an athlete.

Coach I understand you full heartedly, But this is only speculation, I speculate you never been my size and there for correct fitting a guy and moving your feet work a lot of the time but do you think if Steve Smith and Santana Moss tried to correct fit a linebacker, they wouldn't knock the heck out of them , meaning the next time they see him, they won't cut him. Its not a knock on their ability sometimes a guy is just a little stronger and (Bigger) then you and you have to bring him down to size. For the Big guys I've played QB and have had some horrible lines. The only reason I was able to see over the line and get some time was my guys had to cut sometimes either to make a lane for me or they other guy was just sacking the heck out of me. So coach you can line up the 1st quarter and both guys look the same size, weight, and strength, but at the end of the game somebodies going to get whooped and if I'm the QB and my Guards getting killed I would pray he start cutting because its obvious he's not as good as the guy across from him. Its hard to admit sometimes for football players but the proofs in the putting.

This question should help stir the pot a little more.
Well what do you guys think about the Trent Green block on that Texans lineman (I forget his name) that caused his season ending concussion?
It wasn't illegal, but was it immoral?

cut blocking also goes along with certain schemes and plays at times, but is not the norm on every play. in college we were taught a bunch of techniques from cut to crab, and also we were taught some "techniques" if you want to call them that used in higer levels to slow down pass rushers and run stuffers, all of which wouldn't make you require surgery, but hurt like heck. Cutting is part of the game and you see it at all levels, as long as it's clean who cares.
