Not sure who the h.e.l.l you talkin about in this case but if you talkin about buffalo wideman he never spent a single day in a noles uniform actin as Rob's backup in a game. Buff at the most may have backed up in maybe one or two preseason game. From what I seem to remember he came to a few practices during training camp and then he was gone. He never backed up hunt for any extended amount of time beyond camp. How do I know? Because I do the roster and I never wrote his name down on anything.
Buff left because that was his choice not to be on anyone bench and that's that man's prerogative as a very talented athlete to look out for his future. To say he was riding the pine is a lie and the lies people have to make up and use for recruiting against the noles. At least if you trying to make a point get your lies straight.
So you think Buffalo should have started over HUNT??
You guys kill me acting like somebody shafted you solely because someone is ahead of you on a depth chart. What's amazing is the very same guy when he sits on another teams bench don't say a d.a.m.n word. I can count at least 10 cases where a guy has talked crap and downed being a role player for the Noles then he goes to another team and guess what............. he still riding pine as role player. For some reason that guy never talks crap at the game. I wonder why?
Sometimes it's called waiting your time. See Thurmon Thomas and Barry Sanders for reference at OSU.
Sometimes.......in the famous quote of Dennis Green...."You're exactly what we thought you were".

BATMAN I THINK HE WAS REFERING TO HOW BUFF RODE THE BENCH IN 06 FOR THE RAVENS WHILE WILSON ANDERSON STARTED, AND NOW BUFF STARTS AND TERRORIZES THE LEAGUE.

My bad......sorry for jumping gun on that prevailing rumor.
I have heard more then a few people say Buff was Rob's backup and Rob kept him on the bench and that just wasn't true. I thought someone was bringing up this myth again.
Thanks bro for clearing it up.

This one is easy...........If you got time READ THIS. Sometimes....just sometimes players believe in the TEAM concept and being a part of something BIGGER then SELF and greater as a WHOLE. If you notice the common denominator that you mention through example - about players sitting on the Ravens and Noles bench - that those 2 teams just happen to be the #1 and #2 team in the state and arguably the MIDWEST. The Ravens are the best team in the state and the Noles have been for the last decade. Those factors are not through random selection or dismissed as mere coincidence. The sacrifice of self for the betterment of greater WHOLE always is a better product. See 07 New England Patriots for reference. Yes, from a logical sense it would seem DUMB or STUPID for a player that doesn't get paid that feels he's "too" talented to be sitting on a good/great teams bench to choose the option of playing for maybe a lessor power team for the "SELF" satisfaction of more playing time and clock as a starter - but that thought process is SELFISH and flawed when you assemble a team of very talented ball players working for the common goal of TEAM and a CHAMPIONSHIP. Everyone cannot start so the mental discipline on a GREAT TEAM has to be focused on if we are to win a championship my greatest sacrifice has to be - SELF!!! I respect the coaches and respect my teamates....if I only get 3 plays on special teams a game on a GREAT CHAMPIONSHIP team, then it's worth the value of STARTING on a crappy team of T'O's (Terrell Owens me-me). Listen here all you young talented guys that play this game. A great semi-pro coach in Detroit History once told me - YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET PAID MONEY - to act like a PRO. The game of football on any level - when you put on pads and a helmet - is a privilege to play and you must treat and respect as such. The worst kind of player and cancer on a team is a guy that feels he's better then the next guy - or starter - and LET'S EVERYONE KNOW IT! I tell players with that mentality all the time that CREAM always rises to the top - and if you are truly as talented as you SAY - you won't have to SAY IT.......you will show it. You can take this on any level of LIFE. How you discipline yourself on dealing with the mentality of "SELF" is what separates winners from losers in every facet of life. Sometimes to achieve the greatest rewards of LIFE....kids, marriage, financial success and even something as simple as FOOTBALL - the ultimate sacrifice is SELF. The greatest player in Michigan semi-pro history and arguably semi-pro PERIOD in his first full year coming out of Grand Valley State University as an All American QB - yep....ROBERT HUNT...played, get this special teams the entire regular season in semi-pro football for Detroit Bucs. How do I know....I played with him on that same special teams. Yes, Robert and I could have went to a few other lessor strength teams and been GRIDIRON GODS - but we rather have been on a team of good veteran, established players that had a GOOD STRONG nucleus and the talent to win a championship. Like Robert, I knew I was better then the starting DB...yet, I never said a word. Hunt just ran down on special teams being a complete VIKING - giving 30 seconds of FURY. As for me, I was right on the bench all season too waiting for my opportunity. I was RAH-RAH on every good or even bad play he made because I knew what ever this guy did on the field was either correlative to me winning a championship. My job was to not talk behind his back or slander him......"D.a.m.n...that guy sucks" - that wouldn't benefit the STARTER or more importantly - THE TEAM. My job was to pick him up whether it be by noticing something WR was doing or just verbal encouragement. It would have been very easy to go play for someone else or a lessor team to be a starter...but what would that accomplish in my own mental satisfaction and psyche of PLAYING with the BEST TEAM and the best ballers. I would be basically saying - I'm not good enough to compete. My best example of sacrifice from a professional since was Steve Young - Hall of Fame QB - for SF 49ers. Young sacrificed at least 5-6 years of the PRIME of his qb life playing backup QB for the 49ers behind legendary Joe Montana. Anybody that knows this story knows Young was easily the second best QB in the NFL - and in many NFL minds some even argued BETTER than Montana during the twilight of Joe's career. Young, knew that he was playing on a SUPERBOWL level team, and though he could have gotten the BRINKS truck from any other team - he chose the ULTIMATE sacrifice of SELF for the betterment of winning rings. For the other side of that coin count how many Superbowl rings T.O. has for reference. NUFF SAID!!! Bat 21 I hab to borrow this quote to send out to all player who fee they should start or always complain about someone else.

No real athlete in any sport if he's a competitor is gonna sit on the bench to long maybe 2years top so if coach clark and batman has players buying into this then these guys are playing mind games.

Those of us who coached football at this level, we will always see things differently than players do.
I guess the point that is missing that just because a person decides to accept a role as a back-up on a top notch organization does not mean that he is not competitive.
Who the heck enjoys being part of a crappy organization who does not win or win enough or have teamates that believe in the same philisophical ideas as you do? I would hate being the "man" on a team which fights amongst each other, who have no coaching, or lines on the football field. Just playing football is not enough.
Now with that being said,
I would be willing to bet dollars to donuts that the guys who do accept their roles are guys who also have played at a level other than high school and therefore understands and appreciates the "ENTIRE" football experience not just crossing the lines..
Guys who learned this game on saturday night does not appreciate organization, schemes, professionalism, etc etc etc. Those guys think that football is just strapping it up and trying to hit people for their self imposed Highlight tape.
Doesn't take much to satisfy feeble minds..

X-Force Player.........
What is it to buy into? Competition BUYS and PAYS for itself. You don't have to do mind tricks and magic. The PAYOFF is rings and titles. Maybe your payoff is telling your kids you had 57 solos, 3 INT's and 4 fumble recoveries against the MIGHTY MINNESOTA MIDGETS of the POWDER PUFF MISTY SOFTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE.
The payoff to the philosophy is 3 National Championship, nine league championships and playing for the league championship 10 years in a row. I also guarantee every player on the roster did something significant to contribute to winning it all. Does that sound like mind games that need to be sold to ANYONE?
I guess some football players think different then I do. Maybe I defined my skills and talent different then some of you. When I started playing I guess my mentality was, I was a STARTER that just so happen to be sitting on the bench. Rather then run away from COMPETITION, I'm going to embrace the challenge. What must I do when given my OPPORTUNITY? I rode the bench my entire first year until end of the season. Anybody that knows the Noles history knows my first game as a fill in (injury to starter) I had 3 INT's - returned one to the house. You think a coach going to over look THAT?
Maybe it's you that needs to look into the mirror and make the choice of what you still playing football for? Don't try to make this sound like it's gotta be some brain washing crusade to sacrifice self for the team. That's a choice one makes for the best interest for EITHER - SELF or TEAM. Is it simply to PLAY football - no matter what the product is.....OR......to play and compete WITH/FOR the best. That's a choice anybody makes to play for a championship level team. What it boils down to is SELF and individual achievement vs TEAM. Personally, I don't think either camp is wrong for choosing different paths, I would never be mad at a baller who wants to PLAY. What I get mad at is a baller that doesn't want to COMPETE, or who OVERVALUES his worth. If I had a dime for every guy that thought he should be STARTING and that was D.A.M.N - awful - I'd be rich. Ive had DB's look me in the face with a SERIOUS look and say I should be starting over THIS GUY and don't know the difference between cover 2 and man-lock.
Don't get me WRONG. There are a select few guys on many benches that truly do DESERVE to play. I'd be a fool to dismiss that favoritism, loyalty, and politics doesn't play a factor in HOLDING some guys back - but, I bet I can count those guys on ONE HAND on all the teams COMBINED. No team would be foolish to keep the next Dieon Sanders, Randy Moss, or Dwight Freeney on the bench. Let's be fu.c.k.ing REAL, if you THE MAN you would be SHINING and getting noticed at any opportunity you get. Maybe the flip side of that is - maybe just maybe you're not as GOOD as you value yourself to be. REAL ballers don't pregnant dog about playing time.....THEY MAKE PLAYING TIME. You ever knock anyone out at practice? Did you ever burn the starting DB's for six in drills? You ever say coach I'm playing special teams and watch what I can do?
X-Force, nobody holding a gun to anyone's head to sit on a championship level teams bench for the sacrifice of GLORY.
When the dust finally clears - It boils down to YOUR choice as an individual an athlete and how you DEFINE -"Playing for the love of the game". Some guys want to be BIG fish in small ponds. Some guys want to live on the edge and swim with piranhas. Either or and that's your choice as a baller. Nobody can knock either - but don't fake the FUNK when that choice is MADE.
Once again, this is no philosophy or brainwash that has to be SOLD. You can be "THAT GUY" for the glory of playing and SELF satisfaction never win a thing and be happy as h.e.l.l - OR - you can be last man on the bench running down on special teams to win a championship. Neither school is wrong, it just boils down to what you want.

Maybe this is food for thought..........and how If there are 3 vital and important phases to a football game and all of them are equally important.....OFFENSE, DEFENSE and SPECIAL TEAMS........If there are starters on OFFENSE....starters on DEFENSE..... .....................why doesn't people view themselves as STARTERS on SPECIAL TEAMS?

Read this old Atlanta Falcons clip on Marlion Jackson. www.falcfans.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=58&Itemid=2Not many NFLers who are actually PROUD to mention about semi-pro experience. Well, Marlion did and is still proud of it (just got cut recently from Carolina Panthers). He is still hanging on though. X-Force, now do I need to SELL THAT?
